Trump Praises Law Enforcement After White House Correspondents’ Dinner Scare
I have the very latest
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday night that a suspect involved in a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been apprehended, crediting law enforcement for a rapid response.
“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
According to reports cited by Fox News, a suspect entered the Washington Hilton hotel and opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent in the vest. The agent is expected to be OK. Authorities have not publicly confirmed additional details, including the identity of the suspect.
The incident unfolded at the Washington Hilton, a location sometimes referred to as the “Hinckley Hilton” due to the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan at the same venue. Reagan was seriously wounded in that attack but survived after emergency surgery.
President Trump posted this picture below of the suspected shooter.
Witnesses described emotional scenes during the evacuation. Erika Kirk was seen in tears backstage, saying she wanted to go home, according to a pool report. She was escorted out through a rear exit as security assessed the situation.
Lawmakers also reacted to the incident. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., said he was pulled into a secure room by Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., who himself survived a 2017 shooting at a congressional baseball practice.
Officials have not announced whether the event will fully resume. Trump said a final decision is expected shortly.
The situation remains under investigation.

Been listening even when we couldn't get a feed. We got to see video and listen to static.
Poor, sweet Erika. What a horrible thing you happen with her there.
