President Biden compares deadly Maui fires to his kitchen fire from years ago.
AP reported the fire was quickly put out at Biden home, no one was hurt.
President Joe Biden faced criticism on social media after sharing a personal story about a minor kitchen fire in his home while addressing the residents of Maui, Hawaii who had recently suffered from a severe wildfire.
During his speech, Biden mentioned that he and his wife, Jill, understood the feeling of losing a home, recounting a past incident where lightning struck his house causing a small fire. He further mentioned the near loss of his wife, his vintage car, and his cat.
Critics, especially from conservative circles, condemned Biden's remarks as insensitive and out of touch given the context of the devastating wildfires in Maui that had resulted in numerous casualties and people still missing.
According to a 2004 Associated Press report archived by LexisNexis, lightning struck the Bidens' residence, causing a small fire in their kitchen. Firefighters managed to control the blaze within 20 minutes, successfully containing it to the kitchen area and preventing it from spreading further.
The White House did not respond to questions about this.
Biden did take a lot of heat on social media.

He is definitely out of touch with reality. Every time he opens his mouth all that comes out is lies! Impeach! Please!
