Sheriff Warns Public About Unregulated Pop-Up Parties in Tuscola County
Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police urge residents to stay away from unsanctioned large gatherings.
Authorities in Tuscola County are warning the public about a surge in large, unregulated “pop-up” parties that have led to violence, gunfire, and criminal investigations across Mid-Michigan.
According to a joint release from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police, the gatherings—often advertised on social media—have been occurring since July in parking lots, residences, and other locations throughout the county. The parties are typically attended by high school and college-aged individuals, along with people in their 30s, many traveling from Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac, and neighboring counties.

Deputies and troopers have been called to multiple incidents involving fights and shots fired. Among the investigations currently underway are reports of a vehicle being shot, a person severely beaten, and another individual who had a gun placed to their head while the trigger was pulled but did not fire. Other cases include someone being pistol-whipped, shots fired in a southern Tuscola County village, and a criminal sexual conduct complaint.
While some arrests have been made, law enforcement officials say several cases remain open.
The sheriff’s office and state police are urging residents to avoid these events, warning that they are dangerous and “serious in nature.” Officials said anyone attending could face grave consequences.
