Hendersonville, NC — Chris, a local resident, recounted the severe impact of a recent hurricane on North Carolina during an interview. Heavy rainfall, fallen trees, and flooded roads blocked access to many areas, forcing Chris to take shelter in his car during the storm. "It looked like a war zone," he said, describing snapped power poles and extensive damage.
Despite the challenges, Chris highlighted the community’s resilience, with neighbors working together to clear debris and distribute supplies. However, he noted frustrations with the slow response from FEMA and other government agencies, leaving many isolated residents waiting for help in remote areas near the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Efforts to restore power and infrastructure are ongoing, but the scale of recovery will likely take years. Volunteers, including Samaritan’s Purse and the Cajun Navy, are actively helping in the hardest-hit areas. Residents like Chris emphasized the need for coordinated relief efforts, urging people to connect with local organizations rather than arriving without a plan.
“We’re on our own, but the people here are strong,” Chris concluded, expressing gratitude for the volunteers and neighbors making a difference in the aftermath.
