School funding in Michigan is NOT anywhere near equitable. When larger districts were getting upwards of $15,000/per student, I taught in a district that got about $7000/student. We were a small district. Teachers had $50 to buy supplies for their classrooms for a year. How far did you think that would go? Especially if you had 28 to 30 students. Not even $2/student. That's why schools do fundraisers and have cake sales and all the other things they do to raise money. Teachers are the only professionals who have to fund their own classrooms out of their paychecks. Rather a joke don't you think? Back in 1994 when we had to close early due to lack of funding, districts like Utica were sitting on thousands of unused funds and they kept getting more. By 1995, our district went to pay-to-play for sports. The number of kids who could no longer play was most of them. Well, over 50%. So, when school districts like Detroit who paid for school board members to have limousines complained about not having funds, I was livid. Our school board members were mostly hard working farmers who drove their own pickup trucks. Seriously, many of the districts in the articles are spending unwisely. Detroit had a manager in there...the guy who screwed up in Flint when the water crisis first started. Don't get me started.
Since when do we not teach communism? Has he been in a classroom lately? Does he actually know what is being taught? And if that's the case why is the south all the sudden taking down statues? That's history. It's a reminder of what we don't want to have happen again. As we march right toward it.
