DETROIT, Mich - Ford Motor is delaying production of a new all-electric three row SUV, as it shifts to offer hybrid options across its entire North American lineup by 2030.

The Detroit automaker on Thursday said it will continue to invest in EVs, but it is postponing production of the large SUV at a plant in Canada from 2025 to 2027 to allow for the market to mature more.

The shift in EV plans is the latest for Ford and the entire automotive industry as adoption has been slower than many expected and production costs remain high. Click here to read more.

One of the 11 members of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors is floating reviving a vetoed 1984 law that would force grocery stores to stay open against their will. ST. PAUL, MN - ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Democrats are considering launching a basic income pilot program that would send $500 monthly payments to low-income families — no strings attached. 

It mirrors a project in the city of St. Paul during the pandemic that gave the same extra cash boost to 150 randomly selected families whose income was at or below 300% of the federal poverty line. A study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found participants in the program improved their financial stability and savings and the number of people employed increased by 14%, even after payments expired.

"This program would serve as a demonstration project that unconditional cash payments made directly to families can work in every corner of the state," said Rep. Athena Hollins, DFL-St. Paul, who authored the legislation. 

The bill would establish a grant program where local and tribal governments and nonprofits could administer the $500 monthly payments for at least 18 months. It's defined as a stipend, not as income, so it doesn't impact enrollment in other state assistance. Click here to read more.

MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich - A director of an American firm that’s building battery manufacturing plants in the U.S. has been pictured attending multiple Chinese Communist Party (CCP) meetings, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of the website of the firm’s China-based parent company.

Gotion Inc., the California-based subsidiary of Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech Co. (Gotion High-Tech), is planning to build massive electric vehicle battery plants in Michigan and Illinois, both of which stand to benefit from taxpayer funding. Gotion Inc. Vice President Chuck Thelen has repeatedly denied any CCP ties, but a DCNF investigation found the company’s chief technology officer attended two CCP meetings in China. Click here for more.
