LANSING, Mich - Michigan is actively exploring alternatives to traditional gas taxes for road funding due to the increasing popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles, which are expected to reduce gas tax revenues.

This shift has led Michigan legislators to propose a $5 million pilot program to test a mileage-based road usage fee. This pilot, which aims to start by June 2025, would be funded through the state’s general fund as part of the proposed $6.8 billion transportation budget. Click here to read more.

NIAGRA FALLS, NY - The number of known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) apprehended at the northern border in the first six months of fiscal 2024 continue to outpace those apprehended at the southwest border.

There have been 143 KSTs apprehended at the northern border through the first six months of this fiscal year compared to 92 at the southwest border, according to the most recent CBP data.

Those apprehended are known to law enforcement and in the national Terrorist Screening Dataset, a federal database that contains sensitive information on terrorist identities. It originated as a consolidated terrorist watchlist “to house information on known or suspected terrorists but evolved over the last decade to include additional individuals who represent a potential threat to the United States, including known affiliates of watchlisted individuals,” CBP explains. DALLAS, TX - Mexico’s government provided buses and trucks to several hundred migrants who have been trekking through Mexico for over a month. The migrant caravan’s destination is Mexico’s northern border.

In the most recent chapter of the ongoing migrant caravan, the state government of Oaxaca provided the migrants with several buses and trucks to move them north to Puebla. Government officials also provided the migrants with a state sporting arena for them to rest before continuing their journey. NEW YORK, NY - The high cost of living is hitting Americans hard, especially Gen Z.

A Wall Street Journal analysis found Gen Z has more credit card debt in their early 20s than any other generation did at that age. The average credit card balance for a 22-24 year old is $2,845 according to TransUnion data, that’s 25% more debt than millennials had in their early 20s ten years ago. This comes as rent prices continue to skyrocket. It now costs 30% more to rent than it did pre-pandemic.

The Consumer Price Index shows everyday items cost on average 19% more today than they did when Biden took office.

As inflation remains positioned to hurt Biden politically this election, the president is attempting to rewrite history. He told CNN earlier this week that inflation was already at 9% when he took over. It was actually at 1.4% and didn't hit 9% until June of 2022. Click here to read more.

LANSING, Mich - An $80.9 billion budget approved by Michigan House Democrats on Wednesday diverts $632 million from the state’s pension system for teachers to other priorities like electric vehicle chargers, drones and growing government jobs.

“House Democrats are grasping for any money they can find to pay for their massive budget,” said Richland Township House Republican Leader Matt Hall. “They hiked the income tax and robbed Michiganders of the permanent relief they were promised. They’re raiding the retirement funds of our hard-working school teachers.”

“But with all the extra funding, Democrats are refusing to invest resources where they count,” he said. “Instead of streamlining government to get out of the way of economic growth, investing in road repairs and school safety, or improving accountability to ensure taxpayers get value for their dollars, House Democrats prefer to waste money to hire hundreds of new bureaucrats and dole out subsidies for electric vehicle chargers.” Click here to read more.
