SACRAMENTO, CALIF - The California state legislature is considering a new bill that would prevent schools from notifying parents if their children decide to change genders.
The new bill, AB 1955, is backed by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, who was booted for disorderly conduct from a school board meeting last year in Chino Valley, California, where the board approved a policy requiring schools to notify parents if children wanted to change genders, overriding Gov. Gavin Newsom’s policy for the State of California as a whole.`
The state sued the district over the state’s policy requiring, which was then blocked by U.S. Judge Roger Benitez, an appointee of President George W. Bush. (Newsom later launched into a blistering attack on Benitez over gun control.) Click here to read more.
LANSING, Mich - Can you think of a single service that has gotten better over the past few years?
That’s a question Mackinac Center President Joseph Lehman asked our staff a year or so ago. It has stuck with me. It may be the core issue people end up voting on this November.
The job market is pretty good. The U.S. has come out of the COVID pandemic better off economically than most countries. But inflation is still elevated, and it has locked in prices that skyrocketed a few years ago.
We are paying much more for the same – or worse – products than a few years ago, including housing, cars, food, and government services, almost across the board. Click here to read more.
WASHINGTON D.C. - Multiple members of Congress are demanding answers about the federal government’s ability to prevent a terrorist attack after two Jordanian nationals attempted to break into Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
This is after concerns were raised about a Chinese national who recently breached a Marine Corps base in the El Centro CBP Sector after illegally entering the country, and after individuals identified as known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) are continuing to be apprehended at record numbers after illegally entering the country, The Center Square reported. JOHNSON CITY, TN - OHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) — Before the sun was out, Jeremy Beachner was hitting golf ball, after golf ball, after golf ball.
"Three years ago now, I came up with a crazy idea to try to do 100 holes of golf in one day, it was a long shot, and here we are today trying to go for 225 holes," he told WCYB.
A crazy idea for a good cause. Beachner said his motivation for playing: "We have a VA in our back yard and there are so many horror stories of veterans not being able to seek help or being able to get help, or not being able to find a safe space to be around other veterans. PGA Hope is that outlet for our veterans."
Through his marathon play of golf on Friday, he raised money for Folds of Honor and PGA Hope. PGA Hope is a free program that helps military Veterans enhance their physical and mental well-being through golf. It has helped local veterans like Bronson Shelton. Click here to read more.
CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Teachers Union’s past lobbying to keep curriculum a secret plus its divisive tweets show the union’s demand to allow off-the-record curriculum isn’t in parents’ or students’ best interests.
The Chicago Teachers Union isn’t limiting its extreme contract demands to 9% annual wage increases and carbon-free schools. It also wants teacher control over curriculum in a way that could keep parents in the dark over what their children are being taught.
Among the union’s 700-plus proposed contract provisions, CTU is demanding teachers be able to reject any district-provided curriculum to “choose what works best for students.”
That includes any state-mandated curriculum related to “Black history, genocide and Holocaust study, Disability Rights Movement, LGBTQ contributions, culturally responsive teaching and learning standards, Reparations Won, CPS on interdisciplinary latin american [sic] studies, TEEACH ACT, Native American history, and antiracist curriculum, etc.” Click here to read more.
