FLINT, Mich - Flint Community Schools canceled school March 13 after 119 teachers did not show up for work.

Although teacher strikes are illegal in Michigan, the teachers chose to call in sick as a form of protest over a dispute over pay between the district and the teachers union. The average teacher salary in Flint is $67,483, according to the Michigan Department of Education 2022-23 State Bulletin.

Flint schools were among the last to reopen in the state following COVID-19 shutdowns. The district was flush with cash just two years ago, when it received $51,193 per pupil in COVID relief funds – more than any other district in the state and among the top in the nation. Click link to read more.

NEW YORK, NY - Tax documents for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and for a major foundation funded by leftist billionaire George Soros show the organization that purports to represent the U.S. business community has turned hard left in recent years.

The Tides Foundation’s public filings from 2018 to 2022 show the Soros-funded organization has given more than $12 million to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation over that five-year span. In 2018, the Tides Foundation gave the Chamber’s foundation $450,000. In 2019, Tides gave the Chamber group $1,450,000. It gave another $100,000 in 2020, followed by $10 million in 2021 and another $175,885 in 2022. That totals $12,175,885 in a five-year span. Click here to read more.

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Teachers Union leaders want student information regarding student pronouns and sexual orientation to be kept confidential from parents if that’s what the student wants.

The Chicago Teachers Union leadership wants to ensure students are addressed as they prefer in the classroom, but states parents are not entitled to the same information as their child’s classmates and teachers.

New York City Public Schools in June implemented a policy that allows for excluding parents from information about a student’s gender and sexuality. If a student there chooses to go by a certain name at school, teachers are instructed to call the student by a different name when interacting with parents if that is the student’s preference. Schoolbus driver Kia Rousseve rescued a flock of children when her bus caught fire, and it wasn’t until she—the lost one off—took 8 or 9 steps before the front half exploded in flames.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich - An illegal immigrant is awaiting arraignment on an open murder charge after he allegedly killed a young woman whose body was left on U.S. 131 in downtown Grand Rapids.

Michigan State Police continue to investigate the details that led to the body of a deceased female discovered on the roadway of southbound U.S. 131 and Leonard Street with apparent gunshot wounds around 11:38 p.m. on Friday.

Investigators identified the victim as a 25-year-old female. Mavi Garcia told The Midwesterner the woman – her sister – is Ruby Garcia, “a great person all around.”

Mavi Garcia continued: “She would brighten up the room with her beautiful smile and laugh,” Garcia said. “She loved to travel, was dedicated to her work and enjoyed being with her family on her free time,” she said. Click here to read more.
