Was the girl in question under the age of 18? If so, a parent should have been notified and given time to get to the school. The fact that an attorney told the young girl NOT to tell her parents is WRONG on so many levels I can't even count them all. People who are grooming children of any age tell them to keep their relationship a secret. So, who was the groomer? Not obviously a school employee, more than likely the attorney. Sad, very sad. That's the way her actions come across to an outsider. Which means she also lied to the governing board.
They were way out of line. I know Michigan school laws have not changed that much in the 16 years I have been retired. They had to call me to get permission to serve a subpoena to my 16 year old junior when she was in high school because I was an employee they called me. I asked that it be served in the office and not in class and that a counselor or the Assistant principal be available. The assistant principal made the decision to have it served in her office. My daughter was much calmer with the assistant principal there. The assistant principal gave her a few minutes and asked if she wanted to talk about it. She told her what was going on. She had a stalker. We never had to appear the stalker spent time in jail and then confessed. He was fined $1,000. He spent three days in jail because his dad was angry with him. He was also given a PPO meaning he could not come anywhere near her. Then never should have talked to a 15 year old without a parent. I also got a heads up that my subpoena would be next. My principal was not happy, but it was also served in the office.
