Michigan residents fight back over solar and wind energy legislation and much more
Keeping it Real Sunday January 14, 2024
This is a recap of my Keeping it Real Show from Sunday, January 14, 2024
During this show, I talked to Lenawee County Commissioner Kevon Martis who is heading up a petition drive to change a recent law in Michigan that would give control of large wind and solar projects to a non-elected state panel.
I also talked to several people in Grand Blanc, Michigan about how the economy impacts them.

Citizens for Local Choice aims to bring the approval of large-scale solar and wind projects to a vote in November, challenging zoning rules that grant state control over renewable energy project approval in Michigan.
These rules, part of last year's energy package, mandate approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission for solar, wind, and energy storage projects exceeding 100 megawatts.
The group, citing support from 91% of U.P. residents, seeks to reverse this provision, emphasizing the need for local decision-making on project locations.
Proponents argue potential harm to the timber industry without local control, while opponents highlight the ongoing opportunity for public input under the new law.
The petition awaits approval by the board of canvassers, and if granted, the group must gather over 356,000 signatures within 180 days for the issue to be on the November ballot.
I talked to Lenawee County Commissioner Kevon Martis who told me more about the petition drive and what it will take to become successful.

I spent some time at a gas station in Grand Blanc, Michigan talking to average people about what they think the economy is like and how they are coping.
MEDIA BIAS:
White House staff had to be 'relocated' after thousands of pro Palestine supporters descended on the building, threatening to breach the security fence and lobbing over bloodied dolls as part of a huge demonstration demanding a ceasefire on Gaza.
This is a story that did not make widespread media coverage.
