Michigan mandates DEI training to renew some professional licenses
I talk to a man who is not very happy about this
Did you know in the State of Michigan in order to renew some professional licenses you must take implicit bias (DEI Training)?
During the COVID pandemic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer implemented the training for certain professions.
I talked to a man who has an autistic son who works as a pharmacist in the state, he says his son was shocked and offended that he was forced to take the DEI training.
Watch my exclusive interview below:
The discussion covers implementing mandatory implicit bias training (IBT) in Michigan, particularly for professional licensing renewals in healthcare and other fields. A person named Greg discusses his son's experience with this training, noting his son is on the autism spectrum and finds the training confusing and irrelevant. Greg's son questions the necessity of this training for renewing his professional license, feeling that the content does not apply to him and is forced to acknowledge biases he believes he does not possess.

The training has become a requirement for about 20 different professional licenses in Michigan, initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is criticized for being costly, mandatory, and ineffective, as studies cited suggest that IBT does not significantly alter behavior. Additionally, the conversation touches on the broader implications of such mandates, arguing that they add unnecessary hurdles to professional practice and could contribute to a professional exodus from Michigan.
Greg expresses his frustration over the perceived inefficiency and forced nature of the training, suggesting that more practical training relevant to medical practice should be prioritized.

I had to do the DEI training to renew my nursing license. I am not happy about it. It's a waste of my time and money.
Ridiculous. Waste of time and money.
