Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate Anthony Hudson Says He Is Leaving GOP for Libertarian Party
His message to supporters
LANSING, Mich. — Michigan gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson said during an interview that he is leaving the Republican Party and joining the Libertarian Party, stating that he intends to continue his run for governor under his new political affiliation.
Hudson made the announcement directly during the interview and indicated he had not yet publicly shared the decision elsewhere.
“I wanted to tell you first before I told anybody, even social media, that I have decided to drop from the Republican Party,” Hudson said.
He said the move involves a complete break from the GOP rather than a partial or temporary shift.

“I’ll leave the party as a whole,” Hudson said, adding that he has already aligned himself with a different political organization.
“And I have joined the Libertarian Party, and I’m going to continue to run under that platform,” he said.
Hudson did not provide additional explanation during the interview about what led him to leave the Republican Party or when he finalized his decision. He also did not outline any policy differences, campaign changes or strategic considerations connected to his switch.
The comments came as part of a brief exchange in which Hudson confirmed both his departure from the GOP and his intention to remain in the gubernatorial race. He did not indicate whether he plans to release a longer statement or make a broader public announcement beyond the interview.
