Michigan group files complaint alleging state Senate candidate used public resources in campaign ads
Michigan Forward Network says campaign materials show use of fire department property and uniforms, raising questions under state election law
LANSING, Mich. Michigan Forward Network has filed a complaint with the Michigan Secretary of State against Democrat state Senate candidate Chedrick Greene, alleging he improperly used public resources in campaign materials.
According to Michigan Forward Network, and first reported by The Midwesterner, Greene appears in campaign advertisements filmed inside a firehouse, wearing Saginaw Fire Department uniforms and turnout gear, and standing in front of fire department vehicles. Michigan Forward says those images amount to the use of taxpayer funded resources for political purposes.

The group points to a similar 2018 case involving a Republican sheriff who was found to have violated campaign finance rules after appearing in campaign ads wearing his uniform with a squad car in the background.
“Democrat candidates like Chedrick Greene believe they are above the law,” said Gabe Butzke, a spokesperson for Michigan Forward Network. “At the same time he is running to represent the public in the 35th District, Greene violates their trust by using taxpayer resources for his campaign. The Secretary of State must hold him accountable.”
I have reached out to Greene for comment. As of publication, I have not received a response.
