Man Accidentally Shoots Himself at Frankenmuth Kroger, Police Say
FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (Oct. 18, 2025) — A 53-year-old Vassar man accidentally shot himself in the leg Saturday afternoon while shopping at a Kroger store in Frankenmuth, according to police.
Frankenmuth police officers were dispatched at about 2:13 p.m. to 435 N. Main St., where they found the man injured. Officers applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding before paramedics transported him to Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. Authorities said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The man, a concealed pistol license holder, told investigators the .380-caliber handgun discharged when he reached into his pocket. He was with his wife at the time of the incident, police said.
Video surveillance and witness interviews supported the conclusion that the shooting was accidental, according to the department. No other injuries or property damage were reported, and the bullet was not recovered at the scene.
Police took the firearm for safekeeping. Officials emphasized there is no threat to the public. The case remains under investigation.
