LAPEER, Mich. — A longtime Lapeer Public Schools teacher is facing serious federal charges following an FBI investigation into allegations that he paid an underage girl for sexual activity and explicit videos.
Corwin Dennis Gutenschwager has been charged with sex trafficking of a minor and sexual exploitation of children, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Thursday, October 8, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Investigators say the case began after federal authorities received a tip involving suspicious financial transactions.
According to court documents, investigators identified 21 payments totaling $839 allegedly sent through Cash App to a teenage girl between February and April 2026.
The payments reportedly ranged from $5 to $100.

Investigation Leads to Allegations Involving Flint Hotel
Federal investigators interviewed the girl on October 6.
According to the criminal complaint, she told FBI agents that a man she knew as “Cory” initially contacted her through social media.
She alleged that the man later met her in person and drove her to a hotel in Flint, where he paid her for sexual activity.
The school district has released a statement.
Investigators also allege the teacher paid the girl to produce and send sexually explicit photographs and videos.
The FBI reportedly examined communications through the messaging application Telegram and found messages investigators say connected Gutenschwager to the teenager.
Court documents indicate that some of the alleged activity occurred when the girl was 16 years old.
Teacher Reportedly Worked in District for 25 Years
According to the federal complaint, Gutenschwager told investigators he had been employed as a high school teacher with Lapeer Public Schools for approximately 25 years.
The criminal complaint does not identify the specific high school where he worked.
The allegations have now resulted in two federal charges that could carry substantial prison sentences if he is convicted.
The investigation involved the FBI’s Flint Resident Agency and investigators assigned to a regional trafficking and exploitation task force.
The charges remain allegations. Gutenschwager is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
