Keeping it Real with Dave Bondy
How the media has failed. Interview with Independent Journalist Tom Jordan
Every Sunday and Thursday, I produce a show called “Keeping it Real,” where I delve deep into topics that the mainstream media won't cover in detail.
In this episode, I discuss how Donald Trump’s election was a referendum on the mainstream media. I also speak with Tom Jordan, a former mainstream media journalist who has gone independent. Additionally, we examine how media and entertainment continue to create division among people over politics.
Watch the entire show:
In a recent conversation, I had the pleasure of speaking with veteran broadcaster Tom Jordan, who shared insights on his journey in journalism and the evolving media landscape. With decades of experience anchoring and reporting in San Diego and other markets, Tom explained why he transitioned from traditional media to independent journalism. His story shed light on the challenges journalists face as the industry shifts from unbiased reporting to more constrained narratives.
If you haven’t become a paid subscriber yet and would like to do so I would greatly appreciate it. I can’t keep doing what I am doing without all of you.
Tom reminisced about the excitement of holding public figures accountable, no matter their political affiliations, and how newsrooms once celebrated rigorous questioning. However, he observed a significant shift: journalists were increasingly pressured to soften their approach, especially toward certain political figures. This reluctance to challenge powerful individuals marked a turning point that led Tom to step away from mainstream media in 2021.
We discussed shared experiences of receiving pushback from newsrooms for questioning policies and figures, including Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The conversation revealed how corporate and political interests have influenced journalism, shifting its role from holding power accountable to maintaining favorable access.
Now embracing independent platforms, both Tom and I find the freedom to explore topics that legacy media often avoids. Tom encouraged viewers to seek out diverse perspectives and join in conversations that challenge mainstream narratives. His platform, TomJordanLive.com, provides news analysis and commentary across multiple media outlets.
Our discussion highlighted a growing trend among independent journalists who push back against media bias and censorship, striving to give millions of people a voice that aligns with their perspectives and experiences.
