Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer faced backlash after participating in a viral video where she fed a Dorito to podcaster Liz Plank in a manner resembling Catholic Communion. The video, intended to promote the CHIPS Act, showed Plank kneeling as Whitmer placed the chip on her tongue, which many Catholic leaders criticized as mocking a sacred ritual.

The Michigan Catholic Conference condemned the skit, with its president, Paul Long, stating that it was offensive and disrespectful to Catholic beliefs. Whitmer responded by apologizing, stating that her intent was not to denigrate anyone's faith. She emphasized that the video was meant to highlight the importance of semiconductor manufacturing and apologized for any unintended offense it caused.
