How Facebook really works
What is an algorithm and how it impacts your life
I am a news anchor and reporter at Mid-Michigan NOW in Mid-Michigan which covers Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, Midland, and many other cities.
I post stories on my social media accounts about everything from politics, feature stories to my family adventures.
I have 69,500 people following me on Facebook.
Did you know that, on average, Facebook will only show what I post to about 5 to 10 percent of the people who follow my page?
This is called the algorithm, Facebook decides for you what you need to see based on who you are and your recent searches on Facebook and Google.
There is a way to add my Facebook page as a favorite so you can see more of my posts.

The Facebook algorithm also caters to your likes and interests.
For example, if you are a supporter of a certain political candidate Facebook will mostly show you posts in favor of that candidate or stories that paint that candidate in a positive light.
Many times I get criticized by people who say I only post one side of a story.
I actually do post all sides of a story and all viewpoints but Facebook may not be
showing you all of my posts, which in turn could make it seem like I am biased.
I post on Facebook an average of seven times per day… most of you may only see one post if you are lucky.
People sometimes message me saying they are upset that I don’t post any positive stories about former President Trump.
Actually, I post positive stories about Trump and Biden, but Facebook decides which posts you see.
Social media started out as a way for family and friends to stay connected. Over the last ten years it seems social media has turned into a way for people to voice thoughts and words they would never say to someone’s face.
I ask that you don’t judge me on just what you see in your newsfeed.
If you want to seriously learn more about me, I suggest you add my Facebook page as a favorite so you can see everything I post.
