EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — Two years after a catastrophic train derailment and explosion released toxic chemicals into the air, residents of this small Ohio town are still grappling with health problems and unanswered questions.
On a quiet Friday night in February 2022, Kristen and her daughter were watching Disney Channel with her 2-year-old grandson when their lives changed forever. A Norfolk Southern train derailed, setting the stage for a disaster that would shake the community. Days later, the company made the controversial decision to intentionally blow up several of the train’s cars, releasing hazardous chemicals into the air.
