Grand Blanc Community to Hold Vigil Honoring Victims of Church Tragedy
Residents invited to gather in unity at Grand Blanc High School to honor lives impacted by the September 28 act of violence.
GRAND BLANC, Mich. — The City of Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township, Grand Blanc Community Schools, and the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce will host a community vigil to honor the victims and all those affected by the September 28 targeted act of violence at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The event, titled “Grand Blanc: A Community Reflection,” will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Don Batchelor Field at Grand Blanc High School, located at 11920 S. Saginaw Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. The gathering is described as non-denominational and non-political, offering residents an opportunity to come together in unity and support for one another.

The evening program will include remarks from community and faith leaders, including Grand Blanc Township Supervisor Scott Bennett, Grand Blanc Mayor John Creasey, and Grand Blanc Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Trevor Alward. Reverend Jerry Lasley of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church will offer the opening prayer, followed by a moment of silence led by Bishop Jeffrey Schaub of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The event will close with a reflection from Father Joseph Krupp of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Attendees are asked to bring electronic lights only, as wax candles and open flames are prohibited. No bags will be allowed inside the stadium, and metal detectors will be in use. Smoking, vaping, alcohol, and drugs are not permitted. Parking shuttles will be available from St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, located at 9020 S. Saginaw Street, and Bush Street will be closed to the public except for credentialed vehicles.
