Frankenmuth Police Warn Residents After Vehicle Thefts, Counterfeit Bills Reported
Officials say technology may be used in vehicle break-ins and counterfeit money is on the ris
FRANKENMUTH, Mich. — Police in Frankenmuth are urging residents and businesses to stay alert after a recent uptick in vehicle thefts and counterfeit money circulating in the community, according to a statement released by the city.
Nine vehicle thefts have been reported in the past ten months at local dealerships and hotels, including two within the last two weeks. The most recent incident occurred early Saturday, when a 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie Mega Cab was stolen around 2:50 a.m. Investigators believe thieves may be using technology to access vehicles and say the latest case appears connected to similar thefts reported this year.

The stolen truck, equipped with a 6.4-liter Hemi engine, was last seen heading westbound on Jefferson. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the investigator assigned to the case at 989-652-8371.
Authorities say the holiday season has also brought a rise in counterfeit $100 bills. Businesses and shoppers are being advised to examine larger bills closely and look for built-in security features such as watermarks, color-shifting ink and security threads. Police say anyone who encounters suspected counterfeit money should notify a store manager and call 911, but avoid confrontation.
The city says additional resources are being dedicated to identifying suspects, and officials are partnering with other agencies to address the thefts and counterfeit activity. Residents are urged to report suspicious vehicles or individuals immediately.
“Our community is an excellent line of defense,” the statement said. “If you see something, say something.”
