EXCLUSIVE: Student taken into custody after threat investigation at Davison Middle School
Investigation ongoing after student incident at Davison Middle School
DAVISON, Mich. — A Davison Middle School student was taken into custody following an investigation into concerning online activity that led school officials to discover a weapon and other alarming items, according to district officials.
A parent contacted me raising concerns that not all families had been notified about the incident. I reached out to the superintendent for comment but did not receive a response. The following day, a message was sent to all parents addressing the situation.
In a message to families, Davison Community Schools Superintendent Matt Lobban said the situation began when the district’s alert system flagged a student for searching violent material online. School administrators, including the principal and dean, removed the student from class and conducted an investigation.

According to the district, a search of the student revealed a pocketknife, gloves and a notebook containing a list of other students. Officials said the school’s resource officer and local law enforcement were immediately involved.
The student was taken into custody, and the case has been referred to the Genesee County prosecutor’s office. The district said the student faces serious disciplinary consequences, which could include expulsion, in line with the school system’s zero tolerance policy on weapons.
“Consistent with board policy and state law, the student faces serious disciplinary consequences,” Lobban said in the communication to families.
District officials emphasized that the situation remains under investigation and said additional information will be shared when appropriate. Lobban encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact school officials or the Davison City Police Department. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the OK2SAY program.
The district reiterated that the health, safety and well being of students is its top priority and stressed its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
