Photos of the rescue posted on Facebook later drew comments from a resident who said he had seen a coyote chasing two deer through his yard earlier in the day.
The resident suggested that could explain why the rescued deer was missing part of its leg and had a large gash on its hind quarter. Officials have not confirmed the cause of the injuries.
The Oakland County Sheriff says the deer could not be saved.
