Denver's "Newcomer’s Playbook" Sparks Controversy Over Aid to Illegal Aliens
DENVER—The city of Denver, which recently redirected funds from its law enforcement budget to support migrant arrivals, has introduced a "Newcomer’s Playbook." This guide aims to provide a comprehensive approach to welcoming and assisting migrants, who are referred to as newcomers, in an effort to be more inclusive.
The playbook details various ways for the community to assist these newcomers, offering resources and guidance on integration into the city. However, the document has raised concerns due to its apparent admission of aiding illegal aliens who "entered without inspection."
The term "entered without inspection" typically refers to individuals who crossed the border without encountering Border Patrol agents or being processed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at designated ports of entry. These individuals, often termed as "gotaways," enter the U.S. without any interaction with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
This designation implies that these migrants do not possess legal documentation, such as parole status or an I-862 Notice to Appear, which are necessary for their legal presence in the U.S. while their immigration proceedings are pending.
The city's acknowledgment of assisting and sheltering these individuals has sparked a debate about the legality of such actions. Under federal law, specifically 8 USC 1324 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, harboring aliens who are unlawfully present in the U.S. can be considered a violation.
City officials have defended the playbook, stating that it is part of a broader initiative to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all residents. They argue that the playbook is a necessary tool to address the humanitarian needs of newcomers and to promote their successful integration into the community.
Critics, however, argue that aiding individuals who have entered the country without inspection undermines federal immigration laws and could lead to legal repercussions for the city.
As the debate continues, the "Newcomer’s Playbook" remains a contentious issue, highlighting the complex intersection of local policies, federal immigration laws, and humanitarian concerns.

They keep renaming them. Let’s just call a spade a spade. They are ILLEGALS.
Idiots drew up this new PLAYBOOK without consulting with their attorneys and they are in violation of state and federal laws. They need to find a good attorney before someone else does and takes them to court. They could lose aid for being a sanctuary city, they could be fined. There are a multitude of crimes that could be committed and why in God's name are they taking police resources?
