Gosh, Michigan really hates the idea of school choice now. What a shame. It speaks volume of how much typical public education is failing in this state so let’s attack every other method of schooling our kids.
They started that nonsense back in the 1970s. I said that as an undergrad in college. They lowered the grade point to get into Eastern Michigan University in the 70s. I applied as a transfer student because I had taken two courses at then Genesee Community College (now Mott Community College) while still in high school. GPA at EMU was lowered to 2.4 and still remains there. They have a true honors college at EMU now only certain courses were honors when I attended.
The government hates competition. They do not like parents using their freedoms to move their children from failing schools and having those children succeed
Most charter schools should be under attack. They don't have the stringent controls that are placed on public schools and they can hire under qualified teachers. Many are the ones who cannot get into public education. If you look at the statistics they are under performing public education and have been since their inception. Some kids thrive in them because of smaller class size, but they do not have special education students and if you look at the school population, these are predominantly minority students. This was a new form of segregation. It was sold to parents in larger school districts to get them to move their students out of public schools for a better education. Look deeply into charter schools.

The want to dumb all the kids down not just the public kids

Since when does the state care enough about kids in the public schools or anywhere for that matter.
Two of my grands were accepted into WMAA by lottery. They are very excited to have choice for high school.
