Bay City, Michigan Suspect Out on Bond with History of Assaulting Police Accused of Stabbing Two Officers
Man used child as a human shield during arrest; officers injured in violent encounter.
BAY CITY, Mich. (Dec. 11, 2024) — A 23-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday after allegedly resisting officers, using his one-year-old child as a human shield, and stabbing two police officers in Bay City.
The incident began around 12:30 a.m. when Bay City Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 1100 block of North Jackson Street to arrest the man for violating protective conditions of his bond. Authorities described the man, who has a history of assaulting police, as seated in a vehicle with his child when officers arrived.

Police say the man refused to exit the vehicle despite multiple commands. Officers broke a window to attempt to take him into custody, but he drove the car into a police vehicle, pushing it approximately 10 feet. As the situation escalated, officers broke additional windows and deployed a Taser in an effort to subdue him. The man then held his child as a human shield to thwart arrest, authorities said.
Officers were eventually able to remove the man from the vehicle and separate him from the unharmed child. During the struggle, the man reportedly produced a knife and stabbed two officers. Both were treated for their injuries and released from McLaren Bay Region Hospital.
The man was taken into custody and transported to jail. Reports will be forwarded to the Bay County Prosecutor’s Office, requesting multiple felony charges. The child was released to his mother.
The Bay City Department of Public Safety expressed gratitude to the agencies that assisted, including the Bay County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, Hampton Township Public Safety, Essexville Public Safety, and Medstar Ambulance Service. The department also thanked McLaren Bay Region Emergency Department staff for their care of the injured officers.
Why in God's name was he released so he can repeat this? Obviously, he had disobeyed a personal protection order and gained custody of his child. Then used said child as a shield so officers could not arrest him. Then he stabbed two officers. Seriously, what idiot allowed him to be released? He will most likely go after the child again only to be put in a position where he can stab two more officers. Whose brain was asleep this day?
