Allen Park police chief apologizes for tornado siren failure during severe weather
Chief says “no excuse” for lapse as residents report fear and frustration
ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The police chief in Allen Park issued a public apology after tornado sirens failed to activate during a severe weather incident on April 15.
In a statement released April 17, Police Chief Eron Feltz acknowledged the department’s failure and the impact it had on residents.
“Please accept my sincere and humble apology,” Feltz said. “In moments of crisis, you rely on our systems to provide life-saving information, and on Wednesday, those systems remained silent when you needed them most.”

Feltz said the department received complaints from “scores, if not hundreds,” of residents who expressed anger, fear and concern following the incident. He said their outrage was justified.
“I have tried to address this matter internally, but the reality is there is no excuse for this lapse,” Feltz said. “As your chief, I have failed you.”
The chief described the incident as a “breakdown” but did not provide specific details on what caused the sirens not to activate.
Feltz said the issue has been addressed and that steps have been taken to prevent a similar failure in the future.
“We value your safety above all else,” he said. “I hope that through rigorous corrective action and a renewed commitment to our protocols, we can begin to earn back the trust that was shaken this week.”
