ALERT- South American gangs hit Metro-Detroit neighborhoods again

Police belives gangs of illegal migrants are breaking into homes.

NOVI, Mich. – According to WDIV-TV, Authorities in Novi are currently probing four recent home invasions that they believe are connected to South American gang activity.

The first incident took place on Oct. 31, with the most recent break-ins occurring on Nov. 15. Investigators have noted that the methods used to gain entry and the types of items stolen are consistent with other similar crimes in Oakland County, which have also been linked to South American gangs.

According to police, it is suspected that the perpetrators carried out surveillance of each property prior to breaking in to ensure that no one was home. Additionally, the suspects reportedly used technology to disrupt Wi-Fi signals, effectively disabling security systems according to WDIV TV.

Details of the Four Break-Ins:

Oct. 31 Incident:
Between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., a home located in the 40000 block of Revello Court, near Beck and Eight Mile roads, was targeted. The suspects broke a rear door window to gain entry and stole various items. Authorities believe the suspects approached the home through the wooded area behind the property.

Nov. 2 Incident:
The second reported invasion occurred between 6 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. at a residence in the 40000 block of Vento Drive, near Garfield and Eight Mile roads. The entry method was similar, involving a broken rear door window. Police say the suspects likely accessed the home from the open field behind it.

Nov. 15 Incident (5:46 p.m.):
On this date, a home in the 20000 block of Pomino Drive, also near Garfield and Eight Mile roads, was broken into. The suspect entered via a second-story bathroom window and stole items. Investigators suspect the approach was through the wooded area behind the residence.

Nov. 15 Incident (6:58 p.m.):
The final break-in was reported at a home in the 20000 block of Turnberry Boulevard, near Haggerty and Eight Mile roads. Items were stolen, and it is believed the suspects accessed the house from the wooded area behind it.

None of the homeowners were present during any of these invasions.

Increased Patrols and Call for Vigilance:

Novi police have announced they will be ramping up patrols in these neighborhoods as they continue their investigation.

"We urge our residents to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior or unfamiliar vehicles in their area immediately," the department stated. Anyone with information is asked to call 248-348-7100.
